Putting for a Purpose
The PTSD Foundation of America is a nationally recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing hope and healing to combat veterans and their families suffering from post-traumatic stress. Founded in 2005 as a grassroots effort by volunteers in Houston, the organization began by searching the streets for homeless veterans with a mission to reduce the veteran suicide rate through outreach and specialized programming.
With an estimated 44 veterans dying by suicide daily—surpassing the number of U.S. soldiers killed in action during the Vietnam War—the Foundation has become a leader in providing critical support to veterans struggling with the invisible wounds of war.
In 2012, the organization established Camp Hope in Houston, Texas. What started as an 8-bedroom home has grown into a five-acre campus featuring 120 beds, dedicated buildings for classes and worship, meeting spaces for support groups such as Warrior Group, AA, and NA, and facilities for family integration programs. Camp Hope also maintains a 24-hour crisis line staffed by trained combat veterans.
Employing approximately 100 individuals nationwide, the PTSD Foundation of America currently operates outreach chapters in five states and six major cities, including Houston, San Antonio, Dallas, Atlanta, Phoenix, and Tampa. These offices focus on peer-to-peer support, crisis intervention, and connecting veterans to the Camp Hope program. They also engage their local communities through educational presentations aimed at raising awareness of PTSD and veteran suicide.
Over the past twelve years, the Foundation has served more than 16,000 veterans and their families. In the last decade alone, over 1,800 combat veterans have successfully reintegrated into society—gaining employment, achieving financial independence, earning degrees, and rebuilding family relationships. The organization continues to evolve to meet the mental, physical, and spiritual needs of the veteran community, making a lasting impact on countless lives.
